KOORELOO: From a Greek Rug to the Windows of Saks Fifth Avenue

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, KOORELOO was featured in an extensive interview by GALA, the luxury lifestyle magazine of Proto Thema, sharing the story behind one of Greece’s most internationally recognized handbag brands.

Founded by Creative Director Lila Karagianni and CEO Alexis Krasanakis, KOORELOO was born from a simple yet powerful idea: transforming the traditional Greek kourelou rug into a contemporary luxury handbag that combines craftsmanship, art and timeless design.

The feature explores the brand’s evolution—from a single handmade bag created in Athens to an internationally recognized luxury label stocked by prestigious retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue. It also highlights KOORELOO’s commitment to handcrafted production, artistic expression and authentic Greek creativity.

Today, every KOORELOO creation continues to be designed and handcrafted in Athens, reflecting the brand’s philosophy of creating meaningful luxury through exceptional craftsmanship, originality and enduring design.
